On Saturday 7 February the long-awaited meet of the Northern Group took place. Having awaited the snow melting the Group was able to get together at Rheged. We enjoyed a leisurely look around Rheged before having a cup of tea and piece of cake kindly paid for by the Enthusiasts Club. It was great to have a chat about future events and also for those of us who hadn’t met him, to see Kevin Price as well as becoming acquainted with Saffies new friend Willow.
From Rheged we took a drizzly drive to Keswick where we were slightly bemused at the £5 charge for car parking! Nevertheless we enjoyed a super Sunday lunch and well done to Graham and Lesley for finding us such a great eatery! After strolling around Keswick for a short time the Group progressed to “The Car’s The Star” Museum which had opened especially for the Volvo Enthusiast’s and we were very lucky to be shown around by the owner Peter D Nelson. From “Batman” to “Only Fools and Horses” from “Knight Rider” to “Mr Bean” the collection was very unique and what a coup to be given a first-hand account of the history behind each car and how they came to be purchased. We are certainly very clued up on how to check the authenticity of such vehicles! Many thanks to Peter for an enjoyable tour!
After poses for photographs – Saffie and Willow included – the Group left Keswick having made arrangements to meet in October to visit the James Bond Museum in Keswick also owned by Peter. It was a decision met with much enthusiasm at the end of an enjoyable afternoon! Many thanks to all those who were involved in the arrangements and especially Graham and Lesley.
Next northern date is 3rd October 2010 venue to be confirmed.
